So far this week we've had 3 swans hit the power lines on the property, knocking out power for a couple hours each time. Six PM Monday night, just before lunch on Thursday, and quarter past five tonight...

Seriously, I just want to cook some dinner, not sit in the dark and get automated phone calls from the security system in the processing plant about "Power Failure or Phase Loss Sector 8."

and it sucks for everyone around us, since when we short out, it kills the power for the entire street, not just the farm.

Underground feeds? Pain in the ass to pull, but way swan-proof.

Also, lunch?

Are swans good to eat?

From Wikipedia; The swan song ( in ancient Greek : ) is a metaphorical phrase for a final gesture, effort, or performance given just before death or retirement.

We use these for the most dangerous power lines.

Well, people hunt them, so I guess so. These might be slightly burnt and/or chewy now
